Comparison of PVC Cling Film & PE Cling Film

Comparison of PVC Cling Film & PE Cling Film

PVC (polyvinyl chloride) cling film is known for its excellent stretchability, strong cling, and clarity. It adheres tightly to containers and food surfaces, making it popular in supermarkets, restaurants, and food packaging industries. PVC also has better oxygen barrier properties, which helps maintain food freshness. However, it may contain plasticizers and is generally less heat-resistant.

PE (polyethylene) cling film is safer and more environmentally friendly, as it does not require plasticizers. It is commonly used for household food wrapping and children’s food packaging. Although its cling and transparency are slightly lower than PVC, PE is more heat-stable and suitable for microwave use in many cases. Overall, PVC is preferred for commercial wrapping due to its superior cling and clarity, while PE is favored for safety, health, and domestic applications.

Our packaging is bubble-free, streak-free, and impurity-free, ensuring a pristine surface. Engineered for superior strength to resist deformation, it outperforms standard blister packs. Rigorous quality control adheres to food-grade standards: raw materials scrutinized, precision-calibrated equipment, and expert-led production protocols guarantee 100% certified safety and compliance. Custom design and self adhesive tape wholesale services are available at RUNHU.

How Is Cling Film Made?

How Is Cling Film Made?

Cling film, also known as food wrap or plastic wrap, is primarily produced using either PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or PE (polyethylene) as the base material, depending on the desired properties like flexibility, cling strength, and food safety.

The manufacturing process typically begins with raw material preparation, where food-grade resins—such as PVC with safe plasticizers or HDPE/PE granules—are selected for purity and compliance with standards like FDA regulations. These are melted and extruded through a die in a casting process, forming a thin, uniform sheet. For our cast PVC cling film for sale, this ensures excellent transparency, anti-fog properties, and strong self-adhesion without residues. The film is then rapidly cooled on chilled rolls to set its structure, stretched for optimal thickness (ranging from 8-30 microns in our products), and wound into jumbo rolls or smaller widths like 300mm for PE variants.

Quality controls monitor thickness, tensile strength (up to 50 N/cm in some models), and features like puncture resistance. Finally, rolls are cut, packaged in export-standard cartons, and tested for microwave safety and moisture barrier performance. This efficient casting method allows RUNHU to produce durable, odorless cling film wrap series that extend food shelf life by 50% or more, ideal for wrapping fruits, vegetables, meats, and leftovers in commercial kitchens, supermarkets, and food processing.

What Temperature Does Cling Film Melt?

What Temperature Does Cling Film Melt?

Cling film does not have a single fixed melting point, as it varies by material—PVC or PE—and formulation, but it is designed for safe food contact without melting under normal use conditions.

RUNHU's food-grade PVC cling films, made without harmful plasticizers, are highly flexible and start to soften around 100-160°C, with full melting often above 180°C. The PVC plastic wrap series features excellent heat resistance up to 120°C in some applications, making them oven-safe for low-temperature reheating (when specified) and fully microwave-safe without condensation or degradation. Our transparent PVC variants include anti-fog and breathable properties to prevent moisture buildup during heating.

For PE cling films, like our 300mm food-grade options using HDPE or similar, the melting point is typically 105-130°C. These are non-toxic, odorless, and ideal for cold storage down to -20°C, while offering strong moisture locking (95%+ retention) and super stretch without tearing. Both types are engineered to withstand microwave reheating when loosely applied (not touching high-fat foods directly) and vented for steam escape, ensuring no melting or chemical migration.

Always follow product guidelines: avoid conventional ovens unless labeled, and never exceed recommended temperatures to maintain safety and performance in professional food wrapping.
